PetraS was founded by a group of residents, friends, and long-time admirers of Petrella Salto, united by a shared commitment to protecting and enhancing the cultural and environmental identity of the area.
We are a secular association, deeply respectful of religious rites and traditions. For us, politics means caring for the polis: a shared responsibility for civic dignity, the common good, and the preservation of historical memory.
PetraS looks to the past to strengthen the present, with the goal of passing on to future generations a living heritage of rituals, community life, and beauty.
“Our motto is 'Actions first, announcements later'. We identify with the coat of arms designed by Mariangela Izzi, which preserves the symbols of our land: the lake, the churches, and the fortress.”
We work across multiple areas to address depopulation and neglect through concrete civic initiatives and innovative digital tools.
A project collecting the testimonies of those who have lived in, currently live in, or visit the village. We gather oral accounts, traditions, and local stories to build a shared digital community map based on first-hand experiences.
The reconstruction of the family trees of every village family, starting from the earliest parish records. A project that extends beyond geographical boundaries, reconnecting with descendants of families who emigrated abroad to strengthen the bond with Petrella’s communities around the world.
Environmental awareness and civic engagement through cleaning, maintaining, and revitalizing depopulated areas. Caring for civic and natural assets helps build a resilient community and improves quality of life for everyone.
For PetraS, culture means active participation: not just events, but shared moments that strengthen community bonds and preserve our intangible cultural heritage.
Interviews and testimonies of those who have carried — and continue to carry — the saints in procession, as well as those who have created — and may create again — the Infiorate flower carpets that transform the village streets into tapestries of colour. Stories of traditions passed down through generations, of hands passing the baton, rich in spiritual and communal meaning.
Standing alongside those who bring to life the celebrations of Santa Maria Apparì, San Rocco, and the Madonna Assunta — the pillars of our civic and religious calendar, the days when the village beats as one. We also support the creation of new traditions: the community chooses a theme and develops it through events and initiatives, building a sense of continuity and identity that looks to the future.
Photography exhibitions dedicated to faces, places, and emotions, displayed along the village streets. Book presentations and guided tours exploring the Fortress and the churches: the stones of Petrella become pages of an open-air book, where every corner tells a story.
